Project Overview

A high-throughput transaction processing platform handling non-realtime interbank remittance operations for BIDV's Payment Hub (Phase 2). The platform processes deferred remittance transactions across multiple payment channels : interbank networks, e-payment platforms, and retail payment networks : with multi-leg reconciliation (Core ↔ Gateway ↔ Channel), batch processing, and multi-dimensional reporting capabilities.

Challenges & Pain Points

Massive Transaction Volume

Processing high volumes of interbank remittance transactions daily across multiple payment channels required extreme throughput. Legacy systems could not handle peak-hour loads without degrading response times for other banking services.

Manual Reconciliation Gaps

Multi-leg reconciliation between core banking, the payment gateway, and downstream payment channels was manual and error-prone. Discrepancies in transaction status across different legs could take days to identify and resolve.

Inefficient Batch Processing

The legacy system processed remittance batches sequentially, creating bottlenecks during end-of-day settlement. Failed transactions in a batch blocked the entire queue, requiring manual intervention to restart processing.

No Real-Time Transaction Monitoring

Operations teams had no dashboard to monitor transaction flows in real time. Failed or stuck transactions were only discovered during next-day reconciliation, meaning potential issues went undetected for 12-24 hours.

Our Solution

01

High-Performance Transaction Engine

Architected a non-realtime remittance processing engine using event-driven architecture with Apache Kafka for centralized logging and message routing. Transactions are queued, validated, and processed in parallel batches through the processing engine. Failed transactions are isolated and retried without blocking the pipeline, with timeout and exception handling built into the flow.

02

Automated Reconciliation Engine

Built an automated multi-leg reconciliation engine: core banking ↔ payment gateway, payment gateway ↔ downstream channels (interbank, e-payment, retail). Each leg is matched independently with detailed diff reports. Auto-correction rules handle common mismatches; edge cases are escalated to operations with full context.

03

Payment Gateway Integration Layer

Developed a robust integration layer connecting the processing engine with the payment gateway, which routes transactions to downstream channels: interbank networks, e-payment platforms, product payment services, and retail distribution networks. The gateway handles message formatting, channel routing logic, and retry mechanisms for resilient multi-channel operations.

04

Multi-Dimensional Reporting Dashboard

Delivered a comprehensive reporting suite: transaction volume analytics, settlement status tracking, reconciliation dashboards, and exception reports. All reports support drill-down filtering by date, branch, transaction type, and status : with Excel/PDF export.

Financial & Banking Domain Expertise

Interbank Payment Processing

Deep expertise in Vietnam's interbank payment infrastructure: interbank message protocols, multi-channel payment routing (interbank, e-payment, retail), settlement cycles, and regulatory reporting requirements mandated by the State Bank of Vietnam.

Transaction Reconciliation Standards

Implemented multi-leg reconciliation logic compliant with the client's internal audit standards, covering balance reconciliation, message reconciliation per payment channel, and accounting reconciliation. Configurable matching rules per transaction type and channel.

High-Availability Financial Systems

Deployed on containerized infrastructure with enterprise container orchestration and centralized logging. Enterprise-grade identity management and API gateway for secure, scalable API management. Designed for high availability on private cloud infrastructure.
